Grain Silo & Store Spray Foam Insulation by ThermoFoam — Duratite Group
Overview

Why spray foam for grain stores

Steel grain silos and stores swing through wide temperature changes, and warm grain against a cold steel wall drives condensation on the inside face. That moisture migrates into the crop, triggering hot spots, mould, sprouting and insect activity — spoiling stored grain and risking entire batches. Bare curved steel offers no thermal buffer and sweats whenever outside conditions shift quickly.

Enverge closed-cell spray foam is applied to the silo and store envelope, self-bonding as it cures and following the curved steel without joints, fixings or board cutting. It insulates the shell and forms a vapour-resistant barrier that keeps the internal surface above dew point, damping the temperature swings that pull moisture out of the air and into the grain mass.

Operators get steadier internal conditions, drier steel and far lower condensation risk across the storage season. Grain quality is protected, spoilage and rejected loads fall, and the steel structure itself is shielded from internal corrosion. One seamless, contour-following application turns a sweating steel silo into a stable, protected crop store.

Why spray foam

The benefits for grain stores

Crop Protection

Stabilises internal conditions to guard stored grain from condensation-driven mould, hot spots and spoilage.

Temperature Buffer

Insulating shell damps day-night and seasonal swings that pull moisture from air into the grain mass.

Dry Steel Walls

Keeps the inner silo surface above dew point, stopping condensation forming on cold curved steel.

Seamless Curved Fit

Self-bonding foam follows curved silo walls without joints, board cutting or mechanical fixings.

Corrosion Defence

Vapour-resistant layer shields silo steel from internal moisture that drives rust and structural decay.

Warrantied Foam

Nexseal LE carries a 25-year manufacturer-backed product warranty.

The system

Seals curved steel

Closed-cell foam follows curved and ribbed silo surfaces, sealing condensation out and stabilising temperature.

Enverge Nexseal LE closed-cell foam is spray-applied to silo and grain-store steelwork, self-bonding on cure and conforming seamlessly to curved walls. The low-permeability layer keeps internal surfaces above dew point and buffers rapid temperature swings, controlling the condensation that migrates into stored grain and protecting both crop quality and the steel shell from moisture damage.

In detail

Specification & compliance for grain stores

Curved, corrugated structures — Nissen huts, Quonset huts, grain silos — defeat rigid insulation entirely: boards can't follow the arch and battening destroys the interior. Sprayed closed-cell foam follows the curve exactly, bonding to every corrugation with zero penetrations of the original sheet.

A 15–25 mm coat protects stored contents from condensation; 50–80 mm brings the structure up to habitable, workable comfort. The cured foam also stiffens thinned, ageing steel — often the difference between demolishing a structure and giving it another working generation. Most are completed in 1–3 days.

FAQs

Grain Silo insulation, answered

How does spray foam protect grain stored in a steel silo?

Closed-cell foam insulates the steel shell and keeps the inner surface above dew point, so condensation no longer forms and migrates into the grain. That prevents the moisture build-up behind hot spots, mould, sprouting and spoiled batches.

Can it be applied to curved silo walls?

Yes. Spray foam is applied as a liquid that expands and self-bonds to the substrate, following curved silo walls seamlessly with no joints, board cutting or fixings. The contour-following finish suits round silos far better than rigid panels.

Will it stop the steel from sweating in temperature swings?

The insulating layer buffers rapid day-night and seasonal temperature changes and holds the internal surface above dew point, so the cold steel no longer sweats when outside conditions shift. That keeps the store interior drier and more stable.

Does it protect the silo structure as well as the crop?

Yes. By controlling internal condensation, the vapour-resistant foam shields the silo steel from the moisture that drives internal corrosion, helping extend the working life of the structure alongside protecting the stored grain.

Is the system certified and guaranteed?

Yes. Nexseal LE closed-cell foam carries a 25-year manufacturer-backed product warranty, giving grain operators long-term confidence in the performance of the insulation and condensation barrier.

Can you insulate a curved corrugated roof without framework?

Yes — that's exactly what spray foam is for. It bonds to the curve directly with no battens, framework or fixings.

Will it strengthen old, thin steel?

The cured foam adds meaningful rigidity to ageing corrugated sheets, extending the working life of the structure.

What depth do these structures need?

15–25 mm to protect contents from condensation, or 50–80 mm where the space is being brought into regular use.
